The Spark 5G Race Zone is an immersive interactive event space inside the Emirates Team New Zealand base, showcasing a range of technologies. Buildmedia was engaged by Spark to create two of the six interactive experiences.
Buildmedia revamped the graphics of the ETNZ simulator using Unreal Engine and created a game for the public to try sailing Te Aihe in the Auckland harbour. The physics of the AC75 was accurately recreated using Gomboc, the same simulator which is used to design the AC75 and train the ETNZ team. This is as close as you can get to sailing these amazing machines without getting wet! The simulator is a timed experience allowing up to two players, one controlling the helm and cant of the foils, the other controlling the foil flaps and elevator.
Working closely with the ETNZ design team, Buildmedia created a real time experience for the public to design their own AC75 within the specified rules. You have the ability to change everything from hull design, foil design, rudder design, jib and more.
Once the boat design is complete, it is then projected into the space where you can see it sail in the harbour.
